Student Travel Guidelines

Student travel enriches the school program, as well as the experiential background of
students. It should assist students in meeting the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards.

This guide has been revised to facilitate student travel, and at the same time, assure
accountability and responsibility on the part of all individuals involved with student travel. In
keeping with the premises of School/Community-Based Management (SCBM), review and
approval for student intra-state and out-of-state travel continues to be delegated to the school
principals and complex area superintendents respectively.

It is hoped that this document, as revised, will:
1. Clearly present departmental procedures governing student travel;
2. Standardize guidelines and procedures to assure equal treatment in the review
and approval of student travel requests; and
3. Assure good planning to maximize educational benefits to students, as well as the
safety of all students while on a trip.
